Pregnancy

Expectation means anticipation, hope and belief. If you are newly pregnant the latter may not yet apply to you. However, expecting is a miraculous and special occasion where you are given the time to prepare for motherhood. Even now, as a little form is taking shape in your uterus you are mothering by taking care of yourself. What are the most important steps you can take as a pregnant mother? Eating healthy, balanced meals, exercising, regular doctor appointments, and plenty of rest and relaxation. Never underestimate the value of giving your growing body an opportunity to recharge with a little down time. Begin, by examining your current diet. While, it is allowable to sneak in a few treats here and there, you are no longer the only one suffering from bad food choices. The foods you choose can be beneficial or detrimental to the growth of your baby. For example, the amino acids found in protein rich foods are the building blocks of baby's cellular growth and foods that boast a lot of calcium will aid in muscle, heart and nerve development. On the opposite end of the spectrum unhealthy substances such as caffeine, aspartame, sugar, and fried foods are best avoided during pregnancy. Enjoy nutritionally positive foods like strawberries, nuts, yogurt or kiwis that are full of folic acid which is vital for spinal development. One more word of counsel on the subject of diet, do not be afraid to gain weight. Do be cautious about not overeating, but do not avoid eating in order to keep your weight down. Twenty five to thirty five pounds is a healthy amount of weight to gain during pregnancy; a little less for those entering pregnancy on the heavier side and possibly a little more if you were underweight pre-pregnancy. Always consult your physician.

Maternity
In order to feel your very best during the pregnancy months, an enjoyable regime of exercise and skin care to compliment your lifestyle is a must. Regular walks in the great outdoors are a fabulous way to absorb your daily dose of vitamin D and to get some rejuvenating fresh air at the same time. If you are suffering through the hottest summer known to mankind, try the local oasis of an air conditioned mall or museum for your walks, which is also a safe, warm place in the dead of winter. There are many exercise dvds, books, and classes available for pregnant women that can be tracked down on the internet or through local listings in the newspaper or phone book. Pregnancy can be a terror or a blessing to your skin, hair and nails. While hopefully a blessing, if you're finding prenatal life is rearing more of an ugly head you can easily find excellent skin care products to treat stretch marks, hormonal acne, dry skin and other concerns on the internet as well.

Embrace the time you spend preparing for your child. Even if you feel like an alien has invaded your body take a moment to anticipate, hope and believe that the baby you are expecting is going to arrive and it will change your life for the best. Another essential way to prepare is, as mentioned before, relaxation and rejuvenation. If you can afford a day at a Spa, do it. If not, create the atmosphere at home by lighting candles, soaking in the bath tub and listening to soothing music, and do it on a regular basis. Also, try to get to bed early when possible. Lot's of sleep now will not only energize you for the sleepless nights ahead, but it will help you endure the changes to your body that are taking place right now.
