Choosing the Right Games:

Baby shower games have the potential of making or breaking the party. If you don’t choose carefully you risk boring the guests or making them wish the party would end. In order to keep the party alive and exciting you must thoughtfully weigh the options to make the best choices. If you are like many others then you also probably dread those boring baby shower games that always seem to be more of a chore than any fun. It is your responsibility as the hostess or official game planner to find entertainment that won’t kill the party. The best way to start is by looking for games that you would enjoy playing!

Out With the Old and In With the New:
Don’t assume that everyone wants to play baby shower bingo. It’s best to avoid the same old tired games that everyone has played at every shower they’ve been to.  Instead, look for something different and unique. A great place for ideas is, of course, the internet. You can find printable or downloadable games and ideas from the web for free or sometimes a minimal cost.  You can also scour the local library for books or head to Barnes and Noble or another book store for books and magazines to get your creative juices flowing.

Fantastic Baby Shower Game Prizes:
There must be a reward for winning a game. Nothing motivates people to participate like a great prize for winning. You don’t need to spend a lot of money on the prizes, but try to find gifts that are fun or actually useful. There are lots of possibilities that are both enjoyable and inexpensive.  Think out of the box! A sachet full of perfume samples is free and something any woman would love. Mini fans from Chinatown, a gift certificate to Starbucks or the new best seller novel are a few other great ideas.  Rewards for winning the game will spice things up and make it more exciting.

Keep it Lighthearted:
Every baby shower should have a few games. Pick one or two games that won’t take all day or night. Remember that the games are only one component of the shower and shouldn’t take over the celebration. Keep the games lighthearted and never force anyone to play who doesn’t want to. Why not embarrass the dad-to-be if he’s there or have the mother-to-be be the center of attention. The goal is to have fun and to keep mommy’s mood bright and cheerful. Don’t expect her to do too much physical movement, though!

The Celebrity Mom Baby Shower Game:
Here’s a fun and different type of game to play at a baby shower.
Give every guest a small piece of paper and a pen. Then have everyone write the name of a celebrity or famous mom on it like the Virgin Mary or June Cleaver for example. The mom can be fictional or real and can be alive or dead. Then have everyone fold their papers and not tell anyone else who they are. Mix all the names up in a hat then the hostess will read all of the names aloud twice through. Everyone has to try to remember as many of the names as possible. Then start with the mommy-to-be and have her try to guess who one person is. If she gets it right that person sits beside her and they will try to guess everyone else as a team. As soon as they get one wrong, switch to the next person beside her for their turn to guess an identity. The play continues clockwise and the last person’s identity to be guessed is the winner!
